Radiation Safety Assistant
Location: Research Triangle Park, NC
The Radiation Safety Assistant reports to the Radiation Safety Officer and is responsible for providing technical support in implementing and monitoring compliance with the corporate radiation monitoring and protection program.
Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with radioactive material transfer and reporting requirements by clearing sales orders, processing radioactive material transfer requests, and issuing radioactive material transfer reports to regulatory agencies.
Perform radioactive source control and accountability functions, including, shipping and receiving sources, assigning and delivering sources, disposing of sources, conducting periodic source inventories, and maintaining source accountability records.
Perform routine and special radiation and contamination surveys.
Implement the personnel radiation exposure monitoring program and perform lost badge exposure investigations.
Perform radiation safety training for new employees and visitors.
Assist customers with regulatory compliance matters.
Operate the leak test analysis system, including calibration, QC checks, sample counting, report generation, and reminder distribution.
Participate in and support continuous improvement activities in the Department and Company.
Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by supervision.
Prerequisite Education, Skills, and Technical Knowledge
Associates degree in physical science or biological science or equivalent experience
Radiation safety experience a plus
40 hours of formal classroom training in radiation safety or willingness to attend classes
MS Office skills
